Biography

New Orleans bankruptcy attorney, Bill Cherbonnier Jr., is a native New Orleanian who grew up on the WestBank, graduating from Jesuit High School in 1967 and Tulane University School of Law in 1973. He maintains an office in Gretna and concentrating in consumer bankruptcy and debt reorganization (Chapter 13), foreclosure and repossession relief, and state-court collection defense. Bill is NACBA's Louisiana State Chair and is also the Secretary of the Louisiana State Bar Association Consumer Protection Section. He was one of only three at-large members Bar Associaton's Legislation Committee, and in 2008 he testified three times before Senate Judiciary "A" and House Civil Law Committees on homestead exemption reform. Bill is an active member of the National Association of Consumer Advocates, where he participates in the Mortgage and Fair Debt Collection Practices listserves. He also works actively with and in support of the Louisiana Association for Justice, which is the state's premier group of trial attorneys. In 2006 Bill received the 2006 Distinguished Service Award from the New Orleans Pro Bono Project, and volunteers his time to assist the New Orleans Legal Assistance Corporation and Southeast Louisiana Legal Services, agencies that provide free legal representation to the people of limited financial means. He has been a Lecturer at various accredited Continuing Legal Education Seminars concerning bankruptcy and debt collection defense.
