I want to highlight a great post written by Julie O’Bryan discussing the adverse impact that debt can have on health. http://www.thekybankruptcyblog.com/2010/04/29/debt-stress-makes-us-sick

In light of Julie’s article, consider the following statistics from WebMd:

  • Forty-three percent of all adults suffer adverse health effects from stress.
  • Seventy-five percent to 90% of all doctor’s office visits are for stress-related ailments and complaints.
  • Stress can play a part in problems such as headaches, high blood pressure, heart problems, diabetes, skin conditions, asthma, arthritis, depression, and anxiety.
  • The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) declared stress a hazard of the workplace. Stress costs American industry more than $300 billion annually.
  • The lifetime prevalence of an emotional disorder is more than 50%, often due to chronic, untreated stress reactions.

Yes, I see this often in my clients. After I meet with them and relate to them how bankruptcy can help them, you can almost see the stress going out of thier body. I often discuss with clients the impact debt stress can have on a persons health and that this should be considered when deciding whether to file bankruptcy. Great post !
