Eastern District of Michigan’s Chief Bankruptcy Judge to Participate in Roundtable Discussion About Chapter 7 Bankruptcy Issues
On February 17, 2010, the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Michigan (which covers Detroit, Bay City, and Flint) posted a notice on its website regarding “A Late Afternoon Roundtable Discussion” to take place on Wednesday March 10, 2010 in Southfield, Michigan. The notice (available here) indicates that the discussion will be moderated by the Eastern District Bankruptcy Court’s Chief Judge, Phillip J. Shefferly. Topics to be discussed include receiverships, assignments for the benefit of creditors (generally defined as the transfer of all of the debtor’s assets to another person in trust to distribute among the creditors with such delay only as may be incident to liquidation), and related bankruptcy issues, including operating in Chapter 7.
As I have discussed before on this site, bankruptcy court websites can be excellent sources of information for bankruptcy attorneys. This seminar is just one of many ways that bankruptcy attorneys can enhance their understanding of these issues. The Eastern District of Michigan has recently promoted similar seminars related to tax issues in bankruptcy and other issues.
