Two Recusals, Three Divisions, Four Judges: Congressman Ruben E. Hinojosa who had his bankruptcy petition sealed, has the appeal thrown around and dropped like a hot potato by the District Judges.
The appellate battle between Congressman Ruben E. Hinojosa over his sealed bankruptcy petition is heating up. It is apparently too hot to handle because it is on its fourth district judge after an unexplained transfer and two recusals. The appeal started with Judge Janis Graham Jack in Corpus Christi. It was the for reasons unknown transferred to Congressman Hinojosa’s hometown of McAllen where it was assigned to Judge Randy Crane who promptly recused himself. It was reassigned to Chief Judge Ricardo Hinojosa who is a nationally prominent district judge who chaired the U.S. Sentencing Commission. Chief Judge Hinojosa recently also recused himself and the case is now assigned to Judge Micaela Alvarez of Laredo. No judge seems to want to touch this appeal brought by bankruptcy attorney Alex Wathen.
The recusal orders can be found here:
